Practical guide

How to document construction work for as-built with photos

Site photos become much more useful for as-built review when teams capture them with enough context to understand what was built, when it was built, and where it belongs in the project.

Why this becomes difficult later

During construction, teams document many layers that later become hidden: installations, routes, penetrations, anchors, and key construction details. When teams need to review or support an as-built model, the images may exist, but finding them quickly with enough context is often the real problem.

Without a shared structure, review turns into a search through folders, chats, and personal devices.

What makes the photos useful later

  • Images captured before work is closed up
  • Location context for the relevant area of the project
  • Date and author information for later traceability
  • A shared repository that keeps the record available over time
